Grounds

Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that this is the traditional land of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Duwamish, Snoqualmie, Muckleshoot, and other tribes. We honor their enduring connection to this land, which has been cared for and inhabited by Indigenous peoples for countless generations.

We acknowledge with deep respect that this beautiful land is ancestral Coast Salish land, particularly unceded Duwamish Territory. As we carry out our mission of making retreats accessible and fostering spiritual renewal, we are committed to caring for this place in a way that honors its original caretakers, whose presence and connection to the land continue to this day

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace welcome guests to their serene home on eleven acres of wooded land along Lake Washington. The grounds feature many peaceful trails, including a Peace Path through the woods. Visitors can also find reflection and quiet at the Peace Labyrinth, the Meditation Garden, the Virgin Mary's Grotto, or by the dock overlooking the lake.

The Sisters have built their lives here around a commitment to environmental care, reflected in both their infrastructure and practices. The land is lovingly maintained by our dedicated groundskeeper and has been revitalized with native plants and a lakeside retaining wall to protect the water. Many animals also call this land home, and guests may spot deer, eagles, and other wildlife. Care for the earth is a core value of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, and their dedication to environmental stewardship is evident throughout the property.

We invite you to take time to walk the grounds and visit these special spaces during your stay. The peace and beauty of this land offer a perfect setting for reflection and renewal.
