A Quiet Corner for Curiosity and Contemplation
Tucked inside the Sisters’ residence at St. Mary-on-the-Lake, the library offers a cozy, light-filled space for reading, reflection, and spiritual exploration. It is open to all guests attending retreats through the Peace & Spirituality Center, which shares sacred space with the sisters on the lakeside grounds of St. Mary-on-the-Lake. 🕊 A Library Rooted in Legacy
The library moved to its current location in 2011 as part of the St. Mary-on-the-Lake campus renovations. Formerly the staff break room, the space was reimagined as a quiet haven for learning and prayer. Several furnishings were lovingly preserved from Bannan House, linking the space to the Sisters’ long tradition of hospitality, study, and spiritual formation.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the library while on retreat. Books may be borrowed for use during your stay—please just return them before you leave. Whether you’re reading in the library, relaxing in your room, or sitting outdoors surrounded by nature, the spirit of this place invites you to slow down, take a breath, and let your heart be renewed.
