Spiritual Direction & Accompaniment at the Peace & Spirituality Center

At this time, most of our spiritual directors and companions come from a Catholic faith background, but please don’t let that keep you from reaching out. This is not about the religion of the director or companion — it is about your unique way of seeing and connecting with God.

Spiritual direction and spiritual accompaniment are practices of prayerful listening and reflection. They are not forms of counseling, therapy, problem-solving, or theology instruction. Rather, they offer a safe and supportive space to explore your spiritual life, notice how God—or the divine, as you may understand it—is present in your story, and listen more deeply to your own heart.

In this ministry, some may offer what is traditionally called spiritual direction — drawing on formal training and certification — while others share the gift of spiritual accompaniment, rooted in their experience, prayer, and the CSJP charism of peace through justice. Both are about presence, deep listening, and walking alongside you.

The focus is always on you — your experience, your questions, your longings. A spiritual director or companion doesn’t give answers or teach doctrine, but rather accompanies you in noticing where the Spirit may be moving in your life.

Spiritual Accompaniment with our CSJP Sisters & Associates

Our CSJP sisters and associates are always happy to provide spiritual direction and spiritual accompaniment as part of their ministry of pastoral care, whenever possible. Because of their many commitments and ministries, they may not always be available. In those cases, we are glad to connect you with trusted partners in the wider community.

One of these partnerships is with SEEL Puget Sound (Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life), a ministry rooted in the Ignatian tradition that pairs participants with trained spiritual directors and provides resources for prayer and discernment in daily life.

The Peace & Spirituality Center Experience

When you come for spiritual direction or spiritual accompaniment at the Peace & Spirituality Center, your session will always be part of a deeper retreat experience.

You may choose to stay for a half-day or full-day retreat, with a private room reserved just for you. Between your conversation with your director or companion (in person or virtually), you are welcome to enjoy the grounds, walk by the lake, journal, or rest quietly indoors. Retreatants are also invited to join the Sisters for daily liturgy in the chapel at 11:30 a.m., making your time here both personal and communal.

Request Spiritual Direction or Spiritual Accompaniment as Part of your Solo Retreat

If you are interested in exploring spiritual direction or spiritual accompaniment, we invite you to reach out. Please note that all sessions offered through the Peace & Spirituality Center are always part of a half-day or full-day self-guided retreat, which each individual is required to reserve (you may do this here: Solo Day or Half-Day Retreat). This provides space not only for your conversation with a spiritual director or companion, but also for prayer, rest, and reflection in the peaceful setting of our Center.

These sessions are intended as one-time opportunities for prayerful listening and reflection, offered as an additional support for your retreat experience. They are not ongoing spiritual direction, counseling, or therapy, nor are they focused on problem-solving or advice-giving. These sessions are not intended to address psychological, emotional, or medical concerns, and they should not be used as a substitute for professional counseling, therapy, or pastoral crisis care. Instead, they offer a space for prayerful reflection and spiritual growth.

Whether you are connected with one of our sisters, one of our associates, or paired with a director through SEEL Puget Sound or another trusted partner, we will do our best to help you find the right companion for your journey.
